The following CCH grant program deadline is fast approaching. Do not miss your opportunity to apply for and receive grant funding for your upcoming trail project. Applications are now being accepted for the 2023-2024 program. The deadline is March 14^th 2023.

The Recreational Trail Expansion Grant Program 2023-2024 is now accepting applications. 

This Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage (CCH) grant program provides funding to community groups, municipalities, Mi’kmaq Band Councils, and not-for- profit organizations to develop new trails, expand recreational trails, and perform capital upgrades to existing trails in order to increase opportunities for Nova Scotians to recreate in the outdoors and connect with nature.  

The guidelines for the Recreational Trail Expansion Grant program are attached. Soon they will be available on the Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage web site. The deadline to apply is March 14^th, 2023.  We strongly encourage you to discuss your project with your CCTH Regional Manager before submitting an application. Today the Province announced a new WPA in Upper Sackville and expansion to several others. Staff at the wilderness branch have assured us that areas where existing trails will be accommodated and detailed discussions will take place prior to registration of designation.

Past experience shows that although we haven't always been 100% accommodated we usually get what we need. An open mind and trust on both sides will be needed.

Congratulations and thank you to David White who put his name forward and was selected to serve as the new zone director for zone 2. David is a member of Queens County ATV club. David has been riding for over 25 years and is excited about helping advance riding opportunities in his area.

What a great visit to Eskasoni First Nation. Met some great people at their ATV information session and rally. Great to meet Chief Leroy and a band Councillor.

They have a great club who are looking forward to becoming part of ATVANS soon.

The Hubbards ATV club would like to thank all participants for their generous donations to our annual toy run fund raiser. Between the event and club support we donated over a thousand dollars to our local Lions Club for distribution in our area and $500 dollars to the local food bank.

The 50-50 draw was won by John Scott.

Effective immediately the 101 trail from behind Weeks' Quarry in Beaver Bank to the Beaver Bank Rd is closed until further notice due to a washout.

Caution signs and tape have been put up well in advance of washout.

Yesterday the Province of Nova Scotia released their long-awaited consultant's report on the Share The Road pilot project. The finding is exactly like many of us expected and is an affirmation of what we believed the outcome would be.

This is very good news for the advancement of the program and moving toward a permanent expanded opportunity for riding OHVs on public roads to access trails, create connectivity and to enable legal opportunities to access services like food, fuel, and lodging.

Several weeks ago, we met with the minister responsible and she signaled very positive support for moving forward with a permanent program this coming spring. This is indeed really good news. We have included links to the consultant's report as well as the executive summary.

Working together we will see positive results.

We are pleased to announce ATVANS has selected a new Trails Coordinator effective immediately. John Rathwell from Sable River, Shelburne County, has accepted our offer and will begin immediately.

John is a trained Geomatics Technician educated at Fleming Collage in Lindsay, Ontario; his training and experience will assist us as we continue to improve and complete our mapping projects. John has a background in outdoor power sports and trail mapping. He is passionate about traveling and mapping our trail network. John is relatively new to Nova Scotia but has already experienced much of the local trails near his home community.

“I am excited for this opportunity with ATVANS and hope to be meeting the clubs and their members soon. I am eager to hear their concerns and look forward to working with the local clubs to find solutions that work for everyone. My goal is to build on the successes of trail leaders like my predecessor Corey Robar and others,” said John.
